Plastic spoons. Just take the "head" of the spoon. Glued to a plastic bottle. Now it's a lamp! 

Using your old legos or your child's/children's legos. Build around your lamp. When the light is ON, it's pretty!

Tennis ball. Cut a bit at the centre of the ball. It will turn into your keys holder/letters holder/pen holder/etc...
